Having put so much time and effort into turning your garden into that get-away-from-it-all haven you’ve always wanted. Doesn’t it make sense to take a little extra time when choosing your garden patio furniture?
As with interior design, the right furniture can complement the decor. Kettler luxury garden furniture can bring out the best in your garden, while the wrong garden set can look out of place and ruin the overall balance of the patio area. Here are a few things to consider before deciding what garden furniture to buy.
What will your garden be used for:
Is your garden to be a place of tranquillity where you spend the hours tending young plants, pruning roses, and pulling a few weeds? Before sitting down to relax in the sun with a good book.
Do you have toddlers or young children who need to burn off that excess energy running about and playing on swing, slide, in the sand pit – and all over the patio furniture?
Perhaps you envisage warm intimate summer evenings with family and close friends enjoying the outside dining experience. Or maybe you’re a party person, burgers on the barbecue, dance music on the sound system, and the whole street round to eat, drink, and dance the night away.
Consider your space:
If your garden is a large (or small) expanse of grass, perhaps you intend to add a table and four chairs set, with parasol for shade at the height of summer. In this case the overall space used by the set is not so important, but the type of set is.
If young children are involved then a more casual, hard wearing patio set should be chosen. While if its adults only, an attractive wooden dining set would suit the bill.
For others a decked area; or flagstone or brick patio area will have been prepared to take the furniture. In this situation size really is important. Nothing ruins the look of an attractive stone patio or wood decked area than a set of patio furniture which hangs over the side. Or chairs that fall off the edge of the decking when moved for someone to sit down.
Colour Co-ordinate your furniture:
If you have designed your garden using rustic trellis, wooden planters, wooden arches and stained wooden fencing, then dark, lookalike wood stain furniture might suit.
If you intend your garden to be filled with colourful ceramic flower and shrub pots, colourful hanging baskets and brightly stained fencing there are a large number of colourful patio sets available. The addition of bright patchwork cushions can enhance the overall effect.
Think winter time:
Patio garden sets range from cheap to expensive. Before deciding on your purchase, consider those wet windy winter days. Do you have a large shed or garage space you can use for winter storage?
These days you can buy waterproof covers for most shapes of garden furniture. Even then, untreated wood or wicker doesn’t fare too well in wet damp conditions. Plastic will just need to be wiped down, and quality metal or wrought iron patio sets are equally hardwearing. Wooden slats need the occasional sanding and re-varnishing, and the metal frames a touch up with enamel paint.
